Here’s the deal: I have a bucket list that involves owning every cylinder arrangement possible. I’ve done 0-1-2-4-8&10 so far. 6 is coming up shortly. I could figure out a way to spend up to 75k on a car with the goal of it not depreciating significantly after 2-3 years of ownership. The criteria is it must have 12 cylinders . Manual is strongly preferred. What say you, oppo?
Edit: had a rotary and and electric as well, doesn't have to be V configuration.

Manual V12? Dude, testarossas haven't been that cheap since 1995. That was probably your last chance short of manual conversion on a jaguar V12

Uh...is there a manual V12 aston? Im sure thats gonna be under 75k by now

Lincoln Zephyr V12

They don’t really depreciate

Yes, the
DB7 Vantage was available with a manual

DB7 Vantage. It’s the Double Duratec. Built Ford Tough. The only postwar American V12
Sadly, no Japanese V12 ever made it to the US. The Toyota Century V12 is automatic-only AFAIK. They will be 25 years old soon, and they are already at least 15 years old if you’re in Canada.

Db9 is a front-runner

Throw the manual out the window, get a Mercedes something 65 AMG.
CPO with a nice juicy warranty.

No love for the 5-cyls?

Twin turbo does sound lovely

Yeah, missing some Volvo or euro focus is on this list. Also rotary

Oh, had a rotary too. Rx-8. Also electric. Thinking about an Audi Quattro for the 5cyl

So are you just skipping the three and five? Are you trying different configs? V4? W8?
As for the V12, that's going to be tough. You're hunting for a well worn AM or Lambo. The 599 won't touch five figures probably ever.

Im on board with the W or flat or whatever . I’m mostly focusing on cylinder count. The 3 and 5 will make an appearance, the list is just what I’ve had so far.

This one will be tough to cover
I’d go Aston on the V12. Or S65 AMG.

It’ll take some hunting, but you might be able to find a BMW 850csi for under $75k. The key would be finding a “driver” listed by a private owner; the lowish-mileage dealer-owned examples are closer to $100k nowadays.
Alternatively, you should be able to easily find a 6-speed 850i or ci for between $20k and $30k. They aren’t particularly quick, though, as they were ~4k lb autobahn cruisers.

Jag. Done. You're welcome.

If you can find that for less than 75k, I'll be there tomorrow.

Well it’s not a V12, but it is a manual!
Add a zero and I might be able to come up with one...

Need a BMW i8 at some point to knock off the 3-cyl, or maybe a triumph speed triple
Now, the
7-cyl
slot
is gonna be really friggin hard to fill
![]() 10/16/2018 at 22:36 |
|
Therein lies the rub
![]() 10/16/2018 at 22:37 |

Speed triple is more likely, unless the i8 drops like crazy. Thye are sexy though.

This is the way to do it. CPO S65. Mine made it a full year without breaking, but then it broke almost immediately thereafter. Just valve blocks though, so nothing too major.
![]() 10/16/2018 at 23:41 |
|
Yeah, but how else will you cover the V16?
![]() 10/17/2018 at 00:17 |

5 should be easy, but has a 7, 9, or 11 cylinder ever been made? You’d probably have to go over to planes for those.
![]() 10/17/2018 at 01:08 |

Do that one. It’s dumb that Aston’s are affordable and I always forget.

Genius idea. Wait a couple years then get a V12 Toyota Century. Will be reliable, around 10-15k, and completely off the wall.

I don’t know about best, but I can get you about 15 old MB V12s for that money. Some of them might even run and drive for awhile.
I’ll agree with a warrantied AMG V12 car being the most comfortable choice.
